Organization and governance
There are three areas relating to research for which the Rector has established offices with specific and distinctive responsibilities:
- Research strategies and policies
- Third mission (knowledge transfer, societal impact and public engagement policies) and equal opportunities
Professor of Pharmacology Monica Diluca has been appointed Vice Rector for Research of the University of Milan.
Diluca previously served as Vice Rector for international strategies from 2014 to 2018 and sat in the Academic Senate from 2021 to 2024. She is also President-elect of the Italian Society of Pharmacology (SIF) for the term 2024-2026, and will take up office as SIF President during the next term (2026-2028). A member of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO), DiLuca has received significant international awards for her achievements in neuroscience research, including an honorary degree from the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of the University of Mons back in 2017, an honorary PhD from the University of Bordeaux in 2019 and the EPHAR Rodolfo Paoletti Award for Excellence in Pharmacology in 2024. Her former appointments include the presidencies of the Western Europe Regional Committee of the International Brain Research Organization (IBRO), the Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS) and the European Brain Council (EBC).
She is the current President of the Italian Society for Neuroscience.
Professor of Constitutional Law, Constitutional Justice and Women's Rights in the Constitutional State Maria Elisa D'Amico has been appointed Vice Rector for Knowledge Transfer, Societal Impact and Public Engagement and for Equal Opportunities.
D'Amico is part of the working group on equal opportunities of the Italian Ministry for Equal Opportunities, and co-founder of the expert committee of the Observatory on Violence against Women of the University of Milan. Among her many achievements, she held the Jean Monnet Chair "European Fundamental Rights and Women's Rights" (EFRiWoR), for which she also served as academic coordinator.
She is the founder and coordinator of Human Hall, the research hub on inclusion of the University of Milan.
