Thesis project and final dissertation

The main learning objective of the final dissertation is to gain in-depth knowledge of the research project carried out during the Master's thesis. The thesis consists of an original scientific project carried out in a research lab by the student under the supervision of a tutor. During the thesis work, the student will have autonomous and first-hand experience in Learning how to apply novel and emerging research technologies, cutting-edge data acquisition systems and analytical methods to address different biological questions that are the focus of the host DBS research laboratories.

The student will acquire the appropriate tools necessary for the critical evaluation of scientific literature and for accurate data interpretation and analysis in a specific field of research. Competences in scientific writing will be achieved throughout the project and during the writing of the final dissertation. Experience in the oral presentation and discussion of scientific data will be acquired through research group journal clubs, laboratory meetings, and departmental seminars. In the final oral dissertation, the student presents the thesis work to a Committee composed by faculties that will further evaluate the student's competence in the field of the scientific project in a scientific discussion.
