Obiettivi formativi
This course contributes to the general purposes of the MSc Management of human resources program by offering at the students theoretical, methodological tools and practical case studies to understand how Human Resources Management Systems are applied in organizations to support organizational strategy, improve efficiency and flexibility, increase productivity and performance, and ensure compliance with employment law. The focus will be on merging computer technology with a strategic human resource management perspective. This course provides students with the knowledge, skills and abilities to identify, assess, develop and maintain an effective system for managing human resources information. Students will develop a thorough understanding of the plan, design/acquisition, implementation and applications of an HRMS/HRIS.
During the course we will face the strategic importance of HRIS in creating an eHR organization focused on interconnecting people with business strategy to achieve rapid adaptation to changing needs common to people and business.

At the end of this course, students should be able to:
1.Understand what Human Resources Information Systems are and how organizations could benefit in HRIS acquiring, storing, manipulating, retrieving, analyzing, and disseminating pertinent information concerning an organization's human resources
2.Understand and plan how to increase the effectiveness of managng human assets and provide guidance to management and organizations trough HRIS implementation
3.Critically analyze the administrative and strategic value of a Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS) as relevant to local and global organizations;
4.Identify and examine issues relating to the use of HRIS in contemporary business settings;
5.Construct and present HRIS solutions, related to the effective management of human resource information; and
6.Work collaboratively demonstrating effective communication skills to develop and present HRIS recommendations with integrity and judgement
7.Present their analysis in a proper format of a written report.

Programma
During classes, the following topics will be analyzed: a) The design of a HRIS b) implementation of HRIS including: needs analysis, system design, change management process, costs and investment management c) Main HRIS applications: talent management, recruiting and selection, training and development, performance management, total compensation d) Advanced HRIS applications and future trends as: HR metrics and Workforce Analytics, HRIS privacy and security, HRIS and social media, engagement model and wellbeing.
Prerequisiti
Preliminary knowledge of Human Resource management is recommended.
Metodi didattici
Teaching methods include small group problem-solving activities, based on case studies with HR professionals and managers company testimonials, preparation of group projects, and their presentation to the class.

For attending students (at least 70% of classes), further information on the textbook and required readings will be provided at the beginning of the course.
Modalità di verifica dell’apprendimento e criteri di valutazione
There will be a mid term and a final exam, both written tests that will include both, multiple choice and open questions aimed at evaluating: a) in-depth understanding of theoretical and methodological frameworks on HR Information Systems implementation, management and applications; b) the ability to apply theoretical and methodological frameworks to analyze organizational/managerial problems and to hypothesize solutions within HRIS space; c) the ability to use the proper disciplinary language.
Weekly quick tests on the run (in-class quizzes) and synthesis of case studies will be assigned. A team project work will also be mandatory.
