Final dissertation
A.A. 2024/2025
Obiettivi formativi
The principle learning objective of the final dissertation is to demonstrate a thorough and in-depth knowledge of the research project carried out during the Master's thesis preparation. The thesis consists in collecting scientific data, during which, students will have autonomous and first-hand experience in learning how to apply novel and emerging research technologies, cutting-edge data acquisition systems and analytical methods to address different biological questions that are the focus of the host DBS research laboratories.
Risultati apprendimento attesi
The student will acquire the appropriate tools necessary for the critical evaluation of scientific literature and for accurate data interpretation and analysis in a specific field of research. Competences in scientific writing will be achieved throughout the project and during the writing of the final dissertation. Experience in the oral presentation and discussion of scientific data will be acquired through research group journal clubs, laboratory meetings, and departmental seminars. In the final dissertation the student must first present his/her thesis to a Committee composed by MBC faculties and then defend a scientific discussion to demonstrate a sound competence in the cultural and methodological field of their scientific project.

Modalità di verifica dell’apprendimento e criteri di valutazione
The MBC Master will be obtained by passing a final assessment, which is based on evaluation of the thesis dissertation and an oral presentation (both in English) that describes the research project performed by the student. Following the oral presentation, carried out in front of the thesis committee and a public audience, the student will be questioned by the thesis committee on scientific aspects related to the presented work. The committee will evaluate the presentation skills of the student and the ability to respond to the questions posed by the thesis committee, together with the student's overall performance throughout the two-year Master's, before awarding a grade, calculated on a 110- point scale. Specifically, the final grade will be calculated as mean of grades obtained in the different exams converted into 110, to which a maximum of 10 points resulting from the evaluation of the final dissertation will be added. The awarded degree title is a Master's Degree in Molecular Biology of the Cell.
