Training and refresher course for teachers of Italian in Italy and abroad

The deadline to apply for the Italian language training and refresher course intended for Italian L2 teachers has been extended. The new deadline is 3rd June 2026, at 12.00 noon

The University Language Centre SLAM organises an Italian language training and refresher course intended for Italian L2 teachers. The course is open to all Italian L2 teachers working in Italy or abroad at Universities, Italian Cultural Institutes or other public and/or private bodies.

The course can be acknowledged as Erasmus+ training week.

Requirements

  • Age limit: 25-60 y.o
  • Minimum knowledge level of the Italian language: B2
  • For candidates of non-Italian nationality, the language level will be verified by means of a language certificate or statement attached to the application form.

Course duration

The course will take place in the University branch of Gargnano (BS) on lake Garda, at Palazzo Feltrinelli, from Sunday, August 30, to Saturday, September 5 2026.

The course has a duration of one week, for 25 lesson hours with language trainers specialised in teaching L2 Italian, divided as follows:

  • mornings from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday and Thursday afternoon from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m.

In addition to the didactic activities, a cultural visit currently being defined will be proposed.

At the end of the course, participants will receive a statement of attendance.

Withdrawals and refund upon request by the participant

Should applicants withdraw from the course due to justified and documented reasons, sending relevant notification by 10th July 2026, they will be refunded 80% of the registration fee. Should applicants notify their withdrawal after the aforementioned deadline, the SLAM Centre reserves the right to decide whether to issue a refund or not, depending on the reason and documentation submitted.

For the refund to be issued, the applicant must be the holder or co-holder of the bank account from which the payment was issued.

 

Course programme

Starting from the theoretical premises, the course aims to develop the language-teaching skills in order to effectively address the teaching of L2 Italian. Specifically, the course will provide the strategies and the instruments functional to the development of language skills of learners in various contexts. The course has a theoretical-practical approach.

Those attending the course will deal with some topics during the morning lessons, with a workshop-like approach, while in the two afternoons they will do a practical experimentation of what has been learned, through workshops and simulations.

The programme will soon be defined.

Fee

The course fee varies depending on the type of accommodation selected and includes:

  • 25-hour training and refresher course and all related teaching materials;
  • Six nights of accommodation at the university residences of Palazzo Feltrinelli and/or Casa Bertolini (located 150 metres from Palazzo Feltrinelli), from Sunday, 30 August to Saturday, 5 September 2026;
  • Full board at Palazzo Feltrinelli (breakfast, lunch and dinner – starting from dinner on Sunday, 30 August, to breakfast on Saturday, 5 September 2026);
  • A cultural visit currently being defined;
  • Accident and third-party liability insurance;
  • Course merchandise.
     

The fee does not cover:

  • Travel expenses to and from Gargnano (BS);
  • Health insurance;
  • Extra drinks (wine, coffee);
  • Any personal expenses;
  • Everything not mentioned in the activities included in the fee. 

2026 Fees

The registration fee for the training and refresher course for Italian L2 teachers varies depending on the type of accommodation selected (all charges included):

  • € 897 – Single room with private en-suite bathroom (RATE A)
  • € 797 – Single room with private external bathroom (RATE B)
  • € 692 – Shared double room with private en-suite bathroom (RATE C)

Room assignments will be made based on the accommodation type selected during registration and subject to availability. Please refer to the attached document for a detailed description of the accommodation options.

The Course Administration reserves the right to consider specific requests in duly justified cases, for organizational or personal reasons, subject to accommodation availability.

Application procedure

Candidates must submit their application between 1st April and 3rd June 2026, at 12.00 noon, via the following link

The following documents must be attached to the application:

  • Curriculum vitæ in italian;
  • For foreign candidates: Italian language proficiency certificate or statement at B2 level or higher;
  • Scanned copy of a valid identification document/passport.

Pursuant to European Regulations 2016/679, please be informed that the University undertakes to respect the confidentiality of the information provided by the candidates.

After the deadline, the SLAM Centre will evaluate the applications prioritising teachers who work abroad and will establish the ranking of the eligible candidates, publishing it by the middle of June 2026.

If one or more requirements are not met, the SLAM Centre will reject the application and inform the applicant. 

Finalising the registration

The selected applicants shall confirm their participation by the end of June 2026 by paying the related fee, according to modalities which will be communicated in due time. 

Based on the number of registrations confirmed through payment of the course fee, the SLAM Centre will confirm the activation of the Training and Refresher Course for Italian L2 teachers to all successful applicants by July 10, 2026.

The course will be activated subject to a minimum of 19 eligible participants.

Should the course not be activated due to failure to reach the minimum number of participants, any fees already paid will be refunded in full. For the refund to be issued, the applicant must be the holder or co-holder of the bank account from which the payment was issued.

In the event that the number of eligible applications exceeds the number of available rooms, a waiting list will be established, and the applicants concerned will be duly informed.

Following the payment, the selected applicants will receive an e-mail with further details and useful information.

Between 1st July and 10th July 2026, in case of vacant places, the candidates in the waiting list will be contacted and will have to confirm their participation by 17th July 2026 by paying the related fee, according to modalities which will be communicated in due time.

All participants will have to inquire by themselves about the procedures to be followed to obtain a visa, if necessary, as well as arrange health insurance for their stay.
