Elective Course (Studies in Cultural Heritage and History)
The Latin language course for beginners is addressed to first-year Studies in Cultural Heritage and History students without prior knowledge of Latin and it is aimed at reaching level A1 according to the European Curriculum Framework for Latin language standards.
Level A1 is, indeed, required to effectively attend the following second semester courses included in the relevant first-year degree programme: 'Latin literature' (9 credits) for Studies in Cultural Heritage students and 'Principles of Latin' (6 credits) for History students.
Students are not compelled, but still warmly suggested to attend this Latin language course for beginners. The number of attendees is limited. The registration form is sent via e-mail to all first-year students of the above-mentioned degree programmes. Registering for the course via form means that students declare their commitment to attending the course; if it is proved that students are not attending the course, their registration will be called off.
The 34-hour Latin language course for beginners takes place during the first semester and is delivered remotely through synchronous classes run by a language trainer, with the aid of a textbook and of video lessons on an online learning platform, to be viewed independently.
In order to be admitted to the end-of-course test, which can only be sat once, students will have to have attended at least 75% of synchronous classes.
The test is made up of two short reading comprehension texts with multiple-choice questions and a third text with multiple-choice questions on translation. The test is computer-based and lasts 60 minutes.
Students with disabilities or with Specific Learning Disabilities (SLDs) must contact SLAM through the InformaStudenti Service, ‘language test’ category, in order to receive special arrangements and support for the test (students with disabilities: 50% more extra time; students with SLDs: 30% more extra time).
