Elective course taught in English (ACCW)

The Latin language course for beginners is addressed to first-year students in Ancient Civilizations for the Contemporary World (ACCW) without prior knowledge of Latin and it is aimed at reaching level A1 according to the European Curriculum Framework for Latin language standards.

Level A1 is, indeed, required to effectively attend the second-year course of 'Introduction to Latin Literature' (6 credits).

Students are not compelled, but still warmly suggested to attend this Latin language course for beginners. The number of attendees is limited. The registration form is sent via e-mail to all first-year students of the above-mentioned degree programmes. Registering for the course via form means that students declare their commitment to attending the course; if it is proved that students are not attending the course, their registration will be called off.

The 60-hour Latin language course for beginners, held in English, takes place during the second semester of the first year and is delivered remotely through synchronous classes run by a language trainer, with the aid of a textbook.

In order to be admitted to the end-of-course test, students will have to have attended at least 75% of synchronous classes.

The test is made up of two short reading comprehension texts with multiple-choice questions and a third text with multiple-choice questions on translation. The test is computer-based and lasts 60 minutes.
