Course syllabus
The territory has always been represented and communicated through a plurality of tools and media. In the contemporary era, the intensity and impact of these representations have reached unprecedented forms and dimensions, with a prevalence (but not exclusivity) of visual representations.
How is the territory represented? With what tools? And how do these representations assume a role in territorial communication?
The course aims to offer students theoretical/practical knowledge in the field of representation and communication of territories.
A first part of the course will focus on preliminary training in territorial representation and communication. This part will be based on theory-based considerations as well as the use of examples and case studies.
In the second part of the course, both classroom and field exercises will be proposed.
The exercises will be based mainly on the use of audiovisual tools (photography, video and audio), but without excluding the use of other forms of representation.
Students will be tutored through individual and group exercises, aimed at learning basic techniques and experimenting with forms of representation.
Class attendance is strongly recommended, although not mandatory.
Students who will not be able to attend class should contact the professor prior to taking the exam to make arrangements for the teaching activity/work to be done.
