Mortality and neonatal morbidity
Classification of newborns based on weight and gestational age (preterm, full term and post term infant)
Definition of the physiological newborn
Morphological characteristics of the newborn (biometric values, attitude, body proportions)
Physical examination and neurological examination of the newborn
Knowledge of the physical changes and physiological phenomena of neonates:
- Physiological decline
- Evolution of the umbilical stump
- Skin changes
- Birth cancer
- Genital crisis
- Physiological jaundice
Anatomo-functional characteristics of the various organs and systems in the newborn
Neonatal screenings (metabolic, audiological and visual)
Postnatal growth and somatic development of the infant in the first year of life
Food requirements in the first month and in the first year of life

Psycho-emotional aspects in the puerperium
Endocrinology of the puerperium
Physiology and endocrinology of the lactation process: mammogenesis, lactogenesis 1, lactogenesis 2, galactopoiesis.
Promote and support breastfeeding according to the 10 Unicef steps (20-hour course)
Clinical practices:
- Promote breastfeeding in birth support sessions
- Observation and evaluation of feeding
- Demonstration to mothers of manual pressing of breast milk
