Learning objectives
This course aims to develop reading and writing skills as well as metalinguistic skills through the analysis of descriptive, narrative and expository/argumentative texts, so as to reach proficiency in Italian at B2 level. It also intends to provide in-depth knowledge of the economic language. Exercises aim to improve production skills, both orally and in writing, as well as mediation skills between the varieties and registers of the Italian language. The final goal is to train qualified and culturally aware language specialists, in line with the objective of the study programme.
Expected learning outcomes
By the end of the course, students will be able to understand and produce clear and properly-structured descriptive, narrative and expository texts. They will be also able to find the main information in a text and to paraphrase its contents, both orally and in writing They will be aware of the varieties of Italian. The proficiency level to be reached in Italian is B2 under the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Course syllabus
The course aims to consolidate language skills in speaking, listening, writing, reading and mediation (especially textual) at Level B2, corresponding to the indicators of the Common European Framework of Language Learning. Texts of various types are offered in class, from which grammatical and cultural topics are addressed.

Accompanying the course are 80 hours of exercises, which take place in semesters I and II. The exercises are aimed at deepening the content taught in class and improving comprehension and production skills, both written and spoken; they are also designed to help in the study of the texts on the syllabus.
Prerequisites for admission
Proficiency level B1.
Teaching methods
The method followed is communicative-textual. Students are urged to master the active and passive competence of L2, with attention also given to some examples of special languages, in particular the language of business.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The examination consists of two written tests (a partial one in mid-December, lasting one hour and 30 minutes, and another partial one at the end of the course, in May, lasting 45 minutes) and an oral test, which can only be taken after passing the written tests.
The written tests will contain
- application-type exercises on language knowledge, with content and difficulty similar to that covered in the exercises and during the course;
- exercises in comprehension of written texts, with themes, linguistic registers and communicative purposes specified by the teacher.
- written production activities, with themes, linguistic registers and communicative purposes specified by the teacher.
The oral test consists of an interview on the topics in the syllabus, aimed at ascertaining linguistic competence and precise knowledge of the bibliography in the syllabus.
