Learning objectives
The course intends to illustrate the origin and development of some peculiar expressions of musical theater in a specific geocultural area - the Iberian peninsula and the so-called "Latin" America - in dialectical relationship both with the European tradition of musical theater and with some examples of modern and contemporary hybridizations in a transatlantic context. The course develops according to two main objectives: on the one hand, the description of the main forms of musical theater from the Baroque to the twentieth-century tradition; on the other, the observation of their evolution, transformation and contamination with musical styles and languages of indigenous, African, North American and Asian origin - in the complex and varied contemporary Latin American mosaic.
Expected learning outcomes
Attending students will be able to learn about the origin, evolution and peculiarities of the main forms of musical theater of the Iberian tradition in relation to the European context. They will also have developed an awareness of the hybrid and original character that they acquire in the Latin American context.

Assessment methods and Criteria
As a rule, the exam takes place in oral form and in Italian. The student is required to provide a brief exposition on a topic chosen from among those covered which demonstrates autonomy in bibliographic research, critical sense, presentation skills, knowledge and use of the specific vocabulary. This test can be replaced by a brief written study previously agreed. The subsequent questions of the teacher are aimed at ascertaining the student's ability to orient himself in space (Iberian Peninsula and Latin America) and in time (from the 16th to the 21st century), his ability to recognize and describe the different forms of musical theater presented during the course and knowledge of specific terms in the original language, as well as the ability to analyze a dramatic text in relation to the musical and cultural context.
The final vote is expressed in thirtieths.
The candidate has the right to refuse the vote (in this case it will be recorded as "withdrawn").
International or incoming Erasmus students are invited to promptly contact the teacher.
The exam methods for students with disabilities and/or with DSA must be agreed with the teacher, in agreement with the competent office.
