Learning objectives
The course is aimed at analyzing the processes involved in the acquisition and teaching of a second/foreign language, the main teaching methods according to different perspectives (linguistic, humanistic, communicative), and the practical aspects related to the planning and implementation of a teaching sequence (needs analysis, syllabus design, task implementation, testing and evaluation).
Expected learning outcomes
By the end of the course, students will demonstrate a clear understanding of the constructs related to: second language acquisition processes (input, interlanguage, error analysis); second language pedagogy (approach, method, procedure according to different teaching perspectives - linguistic, humanistic, communicative); description of an L2 and the communication processes involved (language ability, communicative competence, communicative language activity, context of language use); planning and implementation of an L2 teaching sequence (needs analysis, language aims, language levels, learning outcomes, syllabus, technique, task, corrective feedback, testing, assessment).
By the end of the course, students will be able to analyze (with the support of questions): - L2 learning contexts - examples of teaching materials which implement different types of methods of L2 teaching - tools for the identification of L2 needs analysis; L2 teaching techniques and tasks; types of corrective feedback and L2 tests and evaluation methods.

1. Fundamentals of didactics and teaching methodologies
Basic introduction to the fundamentals of teaching, with a specific focus on the methodologies that suit different purposes and the conditions of learning.
2. Educational and education technologies
The innovations experienced over the past 20 years will be specifically addressed, starting with the spread of new media. The didactic use of media will be analysed with regard to both presence learning and online and blended learning.
3. Media education for schools and for an inclusive society
Media education issues are presented, with particular concern to the responsible use of media in scholastic and educational contexts for the education in inclusive citizenship.

The course is open to all students of the University of Milan who are interested in learning basic theoretical concepts for providing lessons in schools and training contexts.

Assessment methods and Criteria
oral exam: The purpose of the oral exam will be to test the knowledge and skills acquired by students in light of the activities and other course topics.
Evaluation criteria:
- knowledge of the theoretical aspects of the topics discusses during the course (exposition);
- ability to exemplify concepts (understanding);
- capacity of use and apply concepts (development);
- communication skills in terms of the appropriateness of the language used to explain the competences acquired and the related problems.
