Expected learning outcomes
Knowledge: Students will achieve an in-depth knowledge of a selection of authors and works from several European and non-European literatures and they will gain a better understanding of the theoretical and methodological issues related to the study of literature.

Competence: By approaching a plurality of historical and cultural horizons in multiple languages, students will improve their hermeneutical competences and their ability to dialog with different cultures. At the end of the course, they will be able to autonomously apply the knowledge and the competences they will have gained to the study of literary works from different times and literatures.

Course syllabus
The course will cover the work of Daniele Del Giudice, whose fiction and nonfiction writing will both be addressed, and other literature from Del Giudice's intertext, that is, authors of whom Del Giudice writes as an essayist or to whom he refers or alludes in his fiction. In part A of the course, therefore, we will read and discuss "Lo stadio di Wimbledon," "Atlante occidentale," "Nel museo di Reims," "Staccando l'ombra da terra," "Mania," "Orizzonte mobile," "In questa luce," and the other essays collected in "Del narrare." In Part B we will focus on Joseph Conrad and in Part C on Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, but in both we may refer to other travel, flight or children's literature.
