Learning objectives
The course falls among the basic teachings common to the degree programme. It aims to provide students with knowledge concerning the mental functioning, and the methods for studying the mind proper of cognitive psychology, cognitive sciences, neuropsychology and neuroimaging. More in detail, it will deal with main cognitive abilities such as attention, perception, memory and learning, language, reasoning, emotions.

- provide conceptual tools to reason about the theoretical models of cognitive functioning.

Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student:
- will have acquired knowledge about the main cognitive functions;
- will have developed the ability to reason about the theoretical models of different cognitive functions, and their implications with respect to the basic assumptions about the nature of mental representations;
- will have acquired the ability to interpret experimental data as a function of the theoretical reference framework.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The assessment of learning takes place through a written final test, composed of both open-ended and multiple-choice questions. Open-ended questions allow to verify the understanding and knowledge of specific areas of the discipline, and the ability to reason upon the learned models (autonomy of judgment); furhermore, they allow to verify the correct learning and use of the specific terminology (communication skills). Multiple-choice questions instead allow to verify learning of specific theoretical models in a more fine-grained way.
