Learning objectives
The course aims to provide knowledge in the field of agricultural economics.
The course will provide:
· the concepts and tools for analyzing the agri-food sector,
· the methods and tools for the economic analysis of the farms,
· the main statistical sources for the economic and agricultural analysis,
· the implications and interactions between the agri-food system and the environment
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course, the student will be able to:
· Understand the dynamics of the agro-industrial system
· Draft and analyze farm's balance sheets
· Use agricultural and economic statistical sources -
· Assess the economic impact of environmental protection measures

If it is not possible to carry out the lectures in the classroom, these will be held in synchronous online mode, through the Microsoft Teams platform. The lessons held synchronously will be recorded and made available on the Ariel website of the course. Depending on the availability of the classrooms, there will also be moments of exchange/ review and answer to students' questions, in presence.

Part one: Farm economics and agricultural policies
1. The company and the agricultural enterprise (C, BF, introduction)
2. The production factors of the agricultural company and the relationships between their owners (D, BF 2.1)
3. Business types (C, BF 2.1.4); structural and typological characteristics of companies (C, BF 2.6)
4. Evaluation of the results of the agricultural enterprise (BF 2.2)
5. The economic balance sheet of the agricultural company (BF 2.3; E)
6. The economic analysis of the management of the agricultural company: the production processes (BF 2.4; E)
7. The final evaluation of the entrepreneur's choices: evaluation of the production processes and determination of costs (BF 2.5; E, F)
8. Preventive evaluation of choices (BF 3.1; E)
9. Constraints on choices: internal to the company, deriving from the environment, deriving from policies. 10. Short-term choices (BF 3.2); the constraints on choices given by the CAP
11. The agricultural and agri-food policies of the European Union: evolution and current structure

Part two: Characteristics of agriculture and the agro-industrial system

Prerequisites for admission
Knowledge of economic language (acquired in the course of Elements of Economics)
Knowledge of the methods of use of agricultural land and of the productive characteristics in agriculture and animal husbandry.
Knowledge of elementary statistical methodologies.
Teaching methods
The educational objectives of the course concern knowledge and analysis:
-the methods and tools of economic analysis of the agricultural enterprise;
- agricultural policies and their impact on individual businesses and the agricultural system
- the characteristics and tools of analysis of the agribusiness;
- the main agricultural economic statistical sources.
To this end, the following teaching activities are planned:
Frontal lessons for the relevant parts of the program.
Exerciseas on the balance sheet of farm enterprises.
Seminar interventions on the economic-productive aspects of the agricultural sector by experts
Use of agricultural economic information available on the web.

Assessment methods and Criteria
There will be a partial written test (optional) during the course, in the week of interruption of teaching.
In the first two sessions at the end of the course there is a second partial written test which concerns the part of the program not covered by the test (if carried out with a positive outcome). However, the possibility of taking the written exam on the entire program will be guaranteed to those who have not taken or successfully passed the first partial test, or to those who are not satisfied with the outcome of the first partial test.
Both the partial written tests and the written test on the entire program will be composed of multiple choice questions (with only one correct answer and no negative marks for incorrect answers), open-ended questions and an exercise.
