Other international students and users

All Unimi international students and all international users of the University or visiting our University, among which PhD students, post-graduate students, research fellows, professors and researchers, language trainers and collaborators, who wish to learn Italian and improve their Italian language proficiency can access the Italian language courses for foreigners organised by the SLAM Centre.

In lack of a valid language certificate, prospective attendees must sit the entry-level test, which is held twice a year: in October and in February. The entry-level test can be sat only once during one's career. Test registration is available via the dedicated exam registration platform, i.e. Sifa, to be accessed from your personal Unimia page, under the category of 'Educational activities and other events’; international users who are not provided with Unimi credentials have to send their test registration request via email to email address [email protected] . Being absent on the date prospective attendees had registered for is the same as not taking the test.

Based on the level attained at the entry-level test, each participant is assigned to the course aimed at reaching the next level following that attained at the test. The Italian language courses for foreigners, from A1 to C2, last 60 hours per semester and are held remotely. Course attendance is compulsory.

Participants who attend at least 75% of classes and complete at least 75% of the activities available on the online didactic platform in use are admitted to sit the end-of-course test. Test registration is available via the dedicated exam registration platform, i.e. Sifa, to be accessed from your personal Unimia page, under the category of 'Educational activities and other events’; international users who are not provided with Unimi credentials have to send their test registration request via email to email address [email protected] .

Sitting the end-of-course test on the first scheduled date, which is held right after the end of the course, is compulsory.

Those who do not pass the end-of-course test will have access to 2 more tries to be sat – not necessarily in a row – in order to have access to the next level course (for a total of 3 tries for each Italian course attended).

Those who are not admitted to the end-of-course test or who do not show up at the first compulsory test session may attend anew in the next academic year a course of the same level of that already attended.
