EU and non-EU mobility students
Incoming international students participating in EU and non-EU mobility programmes can access the Italian language courses for foreigners organised by the SLAM Centre in order to learn Italian and improve their Italian language proficiency while staying at the University of Milan.
In lack of a valid language certificate, these students must sit the entry-level test, which is held twice a year: in October for incoming students arriving in the first semester and in February for incoming students arriving in the second semester. The entry-level test can be sat only once. Test registration is available via the dedicated exam registration platform, i.e. Sifa, to be accessed from your personal Unimia page, under the category of 'Educational activities and other events’. Being absent on the date students had registered for is the same as not taking the test.
Based on the level attained at the entry-level test, each student is assigned to the course aimed at reaching the next level following that attained at the test. The Italian language courses for foreigners, from A1 to C2, last 60 hours per semester and are held remotely. Course attendance is compulsory.
Participants who attend at least 75% of classes and complete at least 75% of the activities available on the online didactic platform in use are admitted to sit the end-of-course test. Test registration is available via the dedicated exam registration platform, i.e. Sifa, to be accessed from your personal Unimia page, under the category of 'Educational activities and other events’. Sitting the end-of-course test on the first scheduled date, which is held right after the end of the course, is compulsory. Those who do not pass the end-of-course test will have access to 2 more tries to be sat not necessarily in a row (for a total of 3 tries for each Italian course attended) provided that their mobility period will not be over already before the next available end-of-course test session.
All EU and non-EU international mobility incoming students who sit the entry-level test reaching A2 or a higher level or who pass the end-of-course test after attending the A2 level course will be assigned 3 credits. They have to include in their Learning Agreement the following code: B2611- “Additional Language Skills: Italian’.
Students with disabilities or with Specific Learning Disabilities (SLDs) must contact SLAM through the InformaStudenti Service in order to receive special arrangements and support for the test (students with disabilities: 50% more extra time; students with SLDs: 30% more extra time).
The Italian language entry-level test is computer-based, it lasts 60 minutes and includes listening, reading, grammar and vocabulary exercises for each CEFR level from A1 to C1; exercises are administered starting from level A1 up to potentially reaching level C1 should you reach the minimum threshold of correct answers for each level.
