Tuition waiver
Students enrolled on a bachelor’s, single-cycle or master's degree programme can be exempted rom payment of university fees if they meet specific requirements established by law or Univeristy Regulations.
Students enrolled in postgraduate schools, doctoral programmes and advanced courses can only benefit from waivers for holders of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs scholarships and for students with a certified disability greater than 66%, and/or a recognised disability pursuant to Law No. 104/1992.
Waivers do not apply to the Regional Tax for the Education Incentive Programme of € 140.00 plus a € 16.00 revenue stamp, which must in any case be paid. Only students with a certified disability greater than 66%, and/or a recognised disability pursuant to Law No. 104/1992, will only pay the € 16.00 revenue stamp.
Waivers may be total or partial and are granted either on request of the student or automatically, with no application required.
Students benefitting from exemptions who have to pay the balance of the second instalment, where due, plus any late fees incurred due to having re-enrolled or submitted their University ISEE certificate late, must access the online Payment Service from their personal page UNIMIA and pay by the deadlines indicated, which vary according to the type of waiver.
Students requesting exemption from payment of the second instalment must apply only after enrolling for academic year 2024/2025 and paying the first instalment of fees.
Depending on the type of exemption, students must apply:
- Through the online procedure - from 2 November to 1 December 2024 - also available in their personal page Unimia;
- Sending the appropriate form to the InformaStudenti service, only if so specified in the section "How and when to apply for exemption" on this page for the type of exemption you want to request.
The online procedure checks whether a student can actually apply for the type of exemption requested, and issues a notice indicating whether or not they meet the necessary requirements for exemption (when the requirements are not met, the procedure indicates the reason and the application is not processed).
The Exemptions Office carries out spot checks on students’ possession of requirements during the online request process, listing on the notice any necessary documents and specifying how to submit them. The Exemptions Office may, in any case, ask the student to provide any other document they may require in order to evaluate the exemption request.
For the 2024/2025 academic year, the University will reimburse the second instalment (all-inclusive fee) relating to the last academic year of enrolment, to students:
- whose University ISEE certificate does not exceed € 40,000.00
- who graduate with a mark of 110/110 within the minimum time frame prescribed by the respective regulations, starting from the date when they first enrol at the University, and are not registered as either “not on track with exams” or as a "repeating student”.
Graduates who have had exams validated from a previous university programme cannot apply for exemption.
Part time enrolled students cannot apply for this type of exemption.
How and when to apply for exemption
Those who graduate within the prescribed time frame may submit a request for reimbursement through the Informastudenti Service within 30 days of graduation.
Disabled students are totally exempted from paying the regional tax of € 140.00 and the second instalment (all-inclusive contribution) provided that:
- they have a documented disability (under article 3, comma 1, Law No. 104/1992)
- their disability is equal to or greater than 66%.
These students are only required to pay the € 16.00 revenue stamp.
How and when to apply for exemption
First-year students can apply for exemption during the online enrolment process.
Students who re-enrol on years after the first:
- provided that they have not already benefitted from an exemption in the previous academic year and before paying the € 16.00 revenue stamp, must apply to the Exemptions Office through the Informastudenti Service, attaching a certificate from the Medical Committee verifying their disability status and degree of disability, and/or a certificate of disability from the Medical Committee pursuant to Law No. 104/1992
- are not entitled to submit an exemption request if they have already benefitted from this type of exemption in the previous academic year.
If, in the previous academic year, the student’s degree of disability fell below 66% or they lost disability status (Law No. 104/1992), these changes must be notified.
For students with a disability below 66%, applications will be assessed on a case-by-case basis, depending on the applicant's financial situation as certified by University ISEE.
Any exemptions will be granted by a special Committee.
