Learning objectives
The course aims to provide students with knowledge of international and national legislation on animal health, food safety and environmental protection from the perspective of the 'One Health' principle.
The course content is presented, analysed and interpreted with particular reference to the links with professional practice, assessing the content, applicability and practical effectiveness of the legislation.
After an introduction to the basic principles of positive law, which are useful for understanding the basic criteria of special legislation, the course identifies a practical perspective on the legislative approach to zootechnical contributions in the field of animal health and welfare, food safety in the broad sense (from feed to food) and the relationship between animal husbandry and environmental protection.
The provisions of international organisations, EU regulations and national animal health legislation related to the legal principles of food safety emphasise the close link between research and evaluation with behavioural scientific knowledge and critical analysis of the effectiveness of the standard in terms of practical application in the field.
