Learning objectives
The course aims to provide students with a critical, conscious and operational acquisition of knowledge concerning:
- the clinical and laboratory characteristics of the main endocrine-metabolic diseases and the related nutritional requirements;
- Eating disorders in paediatric, adolescent and adult contexts;
- the main neurological and psychiatric diseases and related nutritional needs;
- the odontostomatological system, oral health and the relationship between food and oral health.

Expected learning outcomes
Knowledge and understanding.
By the end of the course, students will have acquired knowledge of the diagnosis of the main endocrine-metabolic, odontostomatological, neurological diseases and eating disorders, with a focus on nutritional needs.
Applying knowledge and understanding. For these diseases students will be able to recognize clinical and biochemical manifestations, and related diagnostic procedures.
Making judgments.
Students will be able to collect and interpret data for the diagnosis of major endocrine-metabolic, odontostomatological and neurological diseases and to assess the effects on nutritional status. These skills will be acquired through the discussion of clinical cases. Students will also have an in-depth understanding of the link between neurological and psychiatric diseases and nutrition, in order to identify the therapy required for the specific clinical case.
Communication skills.
Students will acquire interpersonal and communication skills that ensure effective information exchange, related these diseases, with individual patients, their families and other healthcare professionals. These abilities will be developed through outpatient internship.
Learning skills.
Students will be able to go deeper in the topic of these diseases through the autonomous consultation of databases, scientific publications and reference texts. These abilities will be developed through report writing during the course.
