General Pathology and Pathophysiology
A.Y. 2025/2026
Learning objectives
The main objective of this course will be to study the pathological mechanisms beyond the systemic diseases paying special attention on etiology (cause of the disease) and pathogenesis (origin and development of a disease) of the pathological processes. General topics which will be covered include the nature and causes of cell injury and death; adaptive cellular changes; apoptosis and necrosis, inflammation, healing and repair, immune system, neoplasia, liver damage and diabetes.
Expected learning outcomes
To understand pathological mechanisms related cell injury and death, adaptive cellular changes, apoptosis and necrosis, inflammation, healing and repair, immune system, and neoplasia.
To discriminate etiology and pathological mechanisms related to plant extracts.
Use the terminology for the field of pathology correctly and contextually.
To acquire the ability to relate these essential basic pathological processes to the pathogenesis of common and important diseases, e.g. neoplasia and inflammation
