Learning objectives
The course aims to provide:
- the epistemological, theoretical and methodological basis of the main criminological issues discussed in Italy and abroad
- the skills for understanding and the critically interpreting "criminal matter", the criminal justice system and criminal policies

Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course students will have acquired:
- an understanding of the main theories of crime, punishment, penal institutions and social reaction to crime;
- knowledge of the main methods used in criminological research;
- the ability to interpret violence, insecurity and other contemporary phenomena and to evaluate crime policies.
