Learning objectives
The course introduces the key concepts, tools, and principles underlying strategy formulation. Adopting a managerial perspective and considering the company in relation to its context and stakeholder network, the course builds on competitive analysis and illustrates the processes that lead to strategy definition to create sustainable value and guarantee the long-term survival of the company.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course, students will be able to:
1. Analyze industry composition and dynamics to develop strategies that position the firms
2. Understand which resources and capabilities can contribute to sustainable competitive advantages to be leveraged on in the formulation of a competitive strategy
3. Define firms' boundaries and make recommendations for the feasibility of vertical and horizontal changes
4. Analytically compare alternative growth options: from organic growth to strategic alliances and M&A
5. Understand the complexity of international competitive strategies.
