Learning objectives
The course aims to provide students fundamental and comprehensive preparation on behavioral pathologies of pets and horses. The course proposes practical approaches in the form of exercises in the clinic, in the classroom and in the field, taking into consideration the typical learning methods of the species and the effectiveness of different behavior modification and training systems. Students will acquire practical and operational skills to diagnose, evaluate and treat behavioral problems of pets and horses.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student must know the main pathologies of the behavior and must be able to treat them using methods that respect animal welfare and are scientifically rigorous. Exercise activities will contribute to the development of critical abilities and judgment on behavioral problems. Finally, the guided and collegial discussion of some recent scientific articles relevant to the subject will develop in the student the ability to continue the study autonomously in the course of life.
Ability to apply knowledge and understanding
Students will have the chance to immediately apply, in a practical context, which it was not possible in previous semesters, issues concerning to behavioral disorders of pets and horses, acquiring basic skills that are also useful for subsequent insights.
Autonomy of judgement
The student must be able to approach the study of the subject in a critical and proactive way, developing critical and judgment skills on behavioral problems during the practical activities.
Communication skills
During the course the student must be able to explain the knowledge acquired using specific and appropriate terminology.
Ability to learn
At the end of the course the student will have acquired the ability to deal with behavioral problems different from those addressed during the course.
