Learning objectives
The course aims to develop theoretical knowledge of disorders and diseases at the molecular level and practical skills related to molecular methodologies applied to experimental analysis for diagnosis and basic research for the study of animal diseases.
Expected learning outcomes
1. Knowledge and understanding: the student, at the end of the course, will acquire fundamental knowledge about the molecular processes underlying disease mechanisms and the basic techniques for studying them with a special focus on the identification and quantification of molecular markers in the veterinary field.
2. Applying knowledge and understanding: the student will have to demonstrate knowledge and understanding useful for the evaluation at the molecular and cellular level of the etiopathogenetic factors underlying structural and functional alterations of pathological processes. He/she should demonstrate practical skills in using the most common biomolecular techniques and their application to the study and diagnosis of livestock and pet diseases focusing on the study of proteins and nucleic acids.
3. Making judgments: the student must demonstrate the ability to critically argue the acquired knowledge. Practical classes are addressed in this regard. The student will develop critical skills and independent judgment by addressing problems in molecular diagnostic pathology and laboratory methodologies during practical classes.
4. Communication: the student is expected to demonstrate the ability to use appropriate terminology, particularly about the etiopathogenesis underlying molecular alterations of disease processes and mechanisms of response to damage and the identification and quantification of molecular markers. Practical classes are intended to improve communication skills during collegial discussions of diagnostic pathology.
5. Lifelong learning skills: to be able to deal effectively with the study of professional subjects to have a complete preparation to enter the world of work.
