Learning objectives
The course aims to provide students with the knowledge of all those elements that constitute the essential starting point of the activities to enhance the cultural, landscape and territorial heritage. The elements at stake, the resources and actors involved, the variety of use policies and the various tourist practices put in place will then be examined. The ultimate goal of the course is to provide some geographic, technical and managerial skills useful for the strategic management of cultural heritage and organizations as well as for the implementation of projects for the enhancement and conservation of cultural and territorial heritage.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course, students must demonstrate that have achieved useful skills to understand the cultural and territorial processes that characterize the places and to read the paths of enhancement that manifest themselves in specific material, patrimonial, symbolic and landscape forms.

Course syllabus
The course is structured in 3 didactic units, each corresponding to 3 credits and 24 class hours. Specifically: didactic unit A proposes an understanding of the effects of anthropic activity upon the territory from an heritage perspective in both its tangible and intangible dimensions; didactic unit B aims to provide the methodological and interpretative tools of the broad theme of tourism and cultural heritage, poised between conservation, enhancement and tourist use; didactic unit C aims to present the main policies and strategies for the enhancement of cultural and territorial heritage through accomplished or ongoing examples, the treatment and direct experience of some case studies.
Prerequisites for admission
Students who are interested in the "Enhancement of cultural and territorial heritage" course must have previously passed at least two exams among the following: geography, urban geography, geography of tourism, regional geography, cultural heritage legislation, territorial marketing, urban planning. In the absence of this prerequisite, students must agree on a supplementary program with the reference professor.
Teaching methods
Face to face lessons to privilege the logical-conceptual learning channel; participatory lessons supported by videos, images, photographs, cartographic and paracartographic representations to strengthen the visual and iconographic learning channel; dialogic lessons held by the professor and by experts on specific topics; laboratories and field trips to put into practice the theoretical knowledge acquired.

For the preparation of didactic unit A, attending students must demonstrate that they know the lessons and documents available on Moodle University teaching platform and the following text:
- Gavinelli D., Zanolin G. (2019), Geografia del Turismo Contemporaneo. Pratiche, narrazioni, luoghi, Carocci, Roma. Paragraphs 2.1 and 2.2 are not to be studied.

For the preparation of didactic unit B, attending students must demonstrate that they know the lessons and documents available on Moodle University teaching platform and a text chosen from the following:
- Cannizzaro S. (2018), Cultura e creatività per la valorizzazione del territorio. Casi di studio nel Mezzogiorno d'Italia, Pàtron, Bologna.
- Mangano S., (2018), I territori culturali in Italia. Geografia e valorizzazione turistica, Carocci, Roma.
- Rabbiosi C. (2018), Il territorio messo in scena: turismo, consumi, luoghi, Mimesis, Milano-Udine.
- Rodolphe C. (2019), Turismo di massa e usura del mondo, Elèuthera, Milano.
- Zanolin G. (2022), Geografia dei parchi nazionali italiani, Carocci, Roma.

For the preparation of didactic unit C, attending students will be asked to deliver a few group works as the result of laboratory and on field activities. For these activities, more information will be provided during the course.

Non attending students will have to prepare didactic unit A on the volume: De Rubertis S. (2022), Turismo, crescita economica e sviluppo territoriale. Una prospettiva geografica, Pàtron, Bologna.

Non-attending students must prepare didactic units B and C by choosing three texts from the following list:

Assessment methods and Criteria
The contents learned will be assessed through an oral interview based on the knowledge acquired during the lessons of the course, the indicated bibliography for attending students, and laboratory and on field project works. For non-attending students, the oral interview will ascertain the knowledge acquired from reading the proposed texts. The student will be asked a series of questions in order to evaluate their understanding of the fundamental concepts of the discipline, the methods and the sources used, also through real examples and case studies. For the evaluation, expressed in a number out of 30, the professor will take into account the usage of appropriate terminology and mastery of the specific lexicon, the knowledge of the sources and methods presented and their application possibilities, as well as the ability to argue, to control topics and to judge critically.
