Learning objectives
The workshop aims to provide students with basic methodological training on research in the cinematographic field. The themes of bibliographic survey and methods of consultation, analysis and selection of sources, published and archival, physical and digital, will be introduced in reference to their historical, cultural and institutional background. Students will also acquire skills useful for returning their research during the thesis writing phase.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the workshop, students will be able to distinguish the main types of sources attributable to the cinematographic sector, to orient themselves with respect to the availability and accessibility of resources and will have assimilated the foundations for their contextualization and critical use. Through practical exercises they will also be able to start the writing of their thesis.

- Understanding what a dissertation is.
- Identifying the specifics of a dissertation dedicated to cinema studies.
- Identifying the main sources for a dissertation dedicated to cinema studies and their characteristics.
- How and where to find sources, how to consult them. The conduct of basic research.
- The structure of a dissertation. How to develop the treatment of the topic. Knowing the standards to be followed in writing the paper.
Prerequisites for admission
Proficiency in Microsoft Word or other similar word processing software is required.
Teaching methods
This workshop is based on lectures and exercises or simulations. Students are invited to participate through questions or case study proposals. The workshop will be in Italian.

Assessment methods and Criteria
There will be no final exam grade. Grading will be based on regular attendance and class participation.
