Learning objectives
The aim of the laboratory is to provide students with the fundamental bases of today's film criticism, with particular focus on web. For this purpose, the history of film criticism, in particular the Italian one, will be deepened, giving evidence of the differences between criticism in newspapers, specialized magazines, websites and film blogs. Through a reflection on the meaning of film criticism nowadays and on the importance of having an alternative critical circuit to the conventional one, therefore able to comment on films that are not released in theatres, some space will be devoted to competencies on how to set up a critical work and evaluate a cinematographic work.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course, students will have learned the fundamental basics of film criticism. They will be able to set up a structured analysis of a film, differentiating it according to the users it is addressed to (Web, specialized magazine); they will be able to structure a journalistic article on cinematographic contents; they will therefore be able to view a film with a critical approach, identifying the most relevant stylistic aspects to be able to interpret the director's message; they will be able to understand how far the form can give the film its true content; they will know how to contextualize the film within the contemporary panorama.
