Learning objectives
The course aims to examine the theoretical, legal and practical aspects of restorative justice and, by adopting the learning by doing approach peculiar to the clinical-legal model, proposes the direct involvement of students in mediation experience and in restorative justice projects.
Through lectures, case studies and role-playing in cooperation with restorative justice experts and mediators, the course aims to provide students with an epistemological, legal and methodological understanding of the restorative justice paradigm.

Learning the epistemological, legal, and methodological basis of the main issues in the field of restorative justice discussed at the Italian and international levels

The following themes will be addressed
- philosophical, sociological and legal framework of restorative justice
- restorative justice in Italian legislation
- victim-offender mediation and other restorative justice practices
- restorative justice in transitional contexts
- conflicts, mediations, reparations
- training of mediators and restorative justice experts
The course will address these issues by offering participants an approach that will combine more traditional learning moments and a direct involvement of students in exercises and role-playing.
Prerequisites for admission
To take the exam of Restorative Justive (Legal Clinic), the student must have already passed the following exams: Criminologia, Diritto penale, Procedura penale. Only students enrolled in 4th and 5th year are admitted.
Teaching methods
Lecturers and trainings in class. The Restorative Justice Legal Clinic offers the opportunity to try out a 'learning by doing' approach and to work on restorative experiences also in transitional contexts.
Teaching Resources
Considering the specific features of the course there is not a text-book, but reading the book of Ceretti Adolfo, Mannozzi Grazia, Mazzucato Claudia (a cura di), "La disciplina organica della giustizia riparativa", Volume quarto, Giappichelli, 2024 is suggested.
Specific material will be used for dealing with the restorative justice arguments.
Assessment methods and Criteria
Students evaluation (on a 0-30 scale) will be at the end of the course on the bases of participation in the activities, accomplishment of tasks assigned, final interview about the issues raised during the course.
