Learning objectives
RuMeN aims to study, through in vitro laboratory tests, the role of feeding on rumen fermentations, with a view to improving the production efficiency of animals and the economic and environmental sustainability of the livestock farm. The topics will be addressed according to the modalities of a research project, that is, starting from an analysis of the scientific literature on the problem of enteric methanogenesis, formulating a hypothesis and collecting measured data to be processed and interpreted.
Expected learning outcomes
The student will learn to know and evaluate practically the possible nutritional strategies for the mitigation of methanogenesis on the basis of chemical and biological analyses, through the use of in vitro techniques carried out using a ruminal inoculum, also useful in a research and development perspective of the animal feed industry.

The program of this laboratory of research, enrichment, and education, deals with rumen fermentations and their modulation through animal feeding, with a view to improving the production efficiency of the animals and the economic and environmental sustainability of the livestock farming. In particular, chemical and biological analyses are carried out, through the use of in vitro techniques using rumen inoculum, in a research and development perspective.
Prerequisites for admission
Basic knowledge of animal nutrition and feeding is required.
Teaching methods
The teaching methods are substantially based on laboratory activities which will be tackled according to the methods typical of a research project, ie starting from a theoretical insight into the proposed problem, formulating a hypothesis and collecting measured data to be processed and interpreted.
Teaching Resources
The reference material for theoretical study will be made available by the teacher and will consist of power point presentations, monographs and specific articles relating to the topic covered.
Assessment methods and Criteria
The active participation in the laboratory activity and the active contribution to the drafting of the final report determine the approval of the credits.
