Learning objectives
. Know the hygiene rules necessary for the cleaning of structures and shelters used for breeding, retirement or care of dogs, cats and unconventional animals
. Know the appropriate restraint for the different animal species when organic alterations are present to induce fragility, and require appropriate manipulations due to the possible disease state. The aim is to plan and organize, for the safety of the animal, the activities to be carried out in collaboration with other professionals
. Know the first signs of deviation from the healthy condition of the species, in the context of a kennel, a lodging for pets, or a hospitalization
. Knowledge of the elements of first aid awaiting the intervention of the veterinarian
. Know how to feed a pet with special needs arising from its disease condition
Expected learning outcomes
. Apply the hygienic rules for cleaning structures and shelters used for breeding, retirement or care of dogs, cats and unconventional animals.
. Apply the most appropriate restraint to the different animal species when organic changes induce fragility and require proper handling for any disease state.
. Plan and organize, for the safety of the animal, the activities to be carried out in collaboration with other professionals
. Utilize the appropriate terminology for describing in proper manner symptoms and deviation from the normality that may be present, and not interfering with the diagnostic tests that the professionals will set.
. Apply in practice feeding a pet with needs arising from a disease condition in support and collaboration with other professionals

Learning program

. Know the hygiene rules necessary for the cleaning of structures and shelters used for breeding, retirement or care of dogs, cats and unconventional animals.
. Know the appropriate restraint for the different animal species when organic alterations are present to induce fragility and require appropriate manipulations due to the possible disease state. The aim is to plan and organize, for the safety of the animal, the activities to be carried out in collaboration with other professionals (e.g.veterinarians)
. Know the first signs different from healthy condition of the species, in the context of a kennel, a lodging for pets, or a hospitalization.
. Knowledge of the elements of first aid awaiting the intervention of the veterinarian
. Know how to feed a pet with special needs arising from its disease condition.
Prerequisites for admission
Pass the exams of Anatomy of the companion animals and Veterinary Physiology (1styear), General Comparative Pathology and Laboratory Analysis, Parasitology and Toxicology, Comparative Animal Nutrition and Nutritional Evaluation of Feeding stuff (2nd year) are required before attending the course.
Teaching methods
Eight lessons, two hours each will be issued, and 16 hours of practical lessons will be administered at the Veterinary Small Animal Hospital

Assessment methods and Criteria
Learning will be assessed during the practical activities of the course, and with a final multiple choices test on the topics dealt with in lessons.
