Learning objectives
The aim of the course of Practical aspects to interact and effectively enter the breeding of beef and dairy cattle is that students develop knowledge and understanding about the functioning and the main dynamics and possible problems that can develop in a dairy or beef cattle farm, as well as the main resolution strategies. The aim of the course is to provide students with the basis for a critical and thoughtful analysis of the business situation, with all possible criticalities, and for the formulation of possible response strategies.
Expected learning outcomes
1. Knowledge and understanding: at the end of the course, the student will have to demonstrate knowledge of the breeding system of beef cattle and dairy cows. The student will have to demonstrate the ability to understand the dynamics and problems within the farm.
2. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding: the student will have to demonstrate knowledge and concepts useful in order to solve the main critical issues that can be found in a beef and dairy cattle farm. He/she will have to demonstrate knowledge of the basic notions of breeding and rationing for the two types of animals previously mentioned. They will have to demonstrate that they are able to make an analysis and report of the critical issues highlighted and to be able to explain their improvement strategies.
3. Critical and judgement skills: the student will have to demonstrate the ability to critically argue the information acquired. In this sense, specific lessons are addressed to the discussion in class on example of cyritic cases and problems that really happened in different farms together with possible solutions. Specific lessons will also be held to explain how to print and write an activity report.
4. Ability to communicate what has been learned: the student will have to demonstrate the ability to express himself with scientifically appropriate terminology in particular with regard to the terminology referred to the management practices of referneza in the breeding of dairy cows and beef cattle, of the possible problems that can be encountered and of nutritional management. The exercises are intended to stimulate the ability to express oneself correctly and the ability to discuss scientifically with peers.
5. Ability to continue the study autonomously throughout life: the student will have to demonstrate the ability to use the knowledge acquired to interpret problems, criticalities, scientific data, new strategies, with the help of available sources of knowledge and a good mental organization.
