Pharmacognosy Applied to the Herbal Sector

Learning objectives
The objective is to acquire knowledge regarding the phytochemical composition, therapeutic efficacy and possible side effects of drugs for herbal use.
The course will address the description of plants, identification of active compounds, analysis of mechanisms of action, and learning the main ways of preparing herbal products. Students will develop critical skills in the scientific analysis and responsible use of herbal drugs in herbal medicine.

Expected learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student should know the mechanisms by which drugs or their constituents interact with biological systems, therapeutic applications, and precautions for herbal use in particular situations.
