Learning objectives
The course aims to provide students with the tools to:
i) recognize the most frequent pathologies in dentistry, otolaryngology, of the maxillofacial district and of the eye;
ii) be able to evaluate and assess diagnostic pathways and therapy;
iii) single out the conditions that may need the support of the specialist.
Expected learning outcomes
The students will be able to identify and understand the epidemiology, the aetiology, symptomatology, clinical examination, differential diagnosis, therapy and prognosis of the mayor disease of the district.

Prerequisites for admission
All knowledge is acquired during the first 3 years of the course.
Assessment methods and Criteria
The learning of each ETU will be verified by the tutors.
The acquisition of the ETU is a mandatory prerequisite before undergoing the final examination and does not provide a mark in thirtieths, but has a qualifying function.

Qualifying activities include the following ETU:
- Knowing how to collect a first level anamnesis
- Knowing the corrective lenses' effect: self trial of positive, negative, astigmatic, prysmatic lenses; pinhole for evaluation of undercorrection, overcorrection, image deformation by astygmatism and double vision on patients
- know how to make measurement of visus
- knowledge the basic operation of direct ophthalmoscope
- know how to evaluate red-eye using direct ophthalmoscope
- have seen cataract surgery
- know how to make and evaluate a cover test
- know how to make an ocular motility study
- know how to make an eyeball palpation to recognize prominent ocular hypertonic or hypotonic
- know how to make a pupillary reflexes study
Teaching methods
Course syllabus and attending modality will be presented during an initial meeting for both students and teacher.
ETU learning should be considered as a kind of committment between the student and the tutor: the student will be engaged in acquiring the knowhow defined by ETU, the tutor will ensure the quality and complete training on ETU.
ETU attending time will be established by the tutor taking into account the student's career and specific needs.

Attendance in hospital wards, clinics, day hospitals, operating rooms, first aid activities, discussion of clinical cases.

- Knowing how to make an oroscopy
- Knowing how to make an otoscopy
- Knowing how to make a palpation of the neck and of the salivary glands
- Knowing how to collect a first level anamnesis
- Having seen diagnostic maneuvers for dizziness
- Having seen a rhinofibroscopy
