Learning objectives
The course builds on students' knowledge of international and European law and introduces them to the complex area of international commercial and economic relations. Students will analyse the multi-tiered legal framework applicable to the trade of goods and services and to intellectual property rights, with a particular focus on dispute resolution mechanisms and their importance.
The course emphasises the study of cases arising from contemporary international economic relations. Students will examine these situations on a practical level and by analysing the decision-making of the World Trade Organisation, while also taking into account trends in introducing various unilateral restrictions in international trade for national security reasons.
Learning takes a systemic and relational approach with a view to promoting skills development through practice and through the study of international legal frameworks. The course encourages students to test themselves and to gain experience in the classroom.
Expected learning outcomes
Upon completing the course, students will know and understand the multi-tiered workings of the legal system governing international economic and commercial relations. They will have learned to relate specific situations to the applicable legislative frameworks and will be comfortable expressing their knowledge and opinions using the appropriate specialist terminology.
By taking part in lessons, students will also learn to critically analyse and autonomously evaluate specific cases that arise in international trade, including those that give rise to disputes, and will improve their communication skills
