Learning objectives
The excel lab. aims to improve the level of quantitative and IT knowledge of the participants useful for subsequent university courses, as well as to provide extremely relevant skills for the preparation of thesis works. This activity allows you to perfect your knowledge of a widely used and recognized software also for the job market.
Expected learning outcomes
The laboratory of excel includes some introductory lessons to the Excel software and its main features and functions. Subsequently, some of the topics covered in the Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science courses will be considered, such as, but not limited to, matrix algebra, optimization, interpolation and various linear and non-linear regression methodologies.

Module 1: Introduction to Excel · Introduction to the Excel interface · Concepts of cell, row, and column · Insertion, modification, and deletion of data · Saving and opening an Excel file Module 2: Data formatting · Formatting of text and numbers · Use of pre-defined formatting formulas · Conditional formatting · Adding borders and colors to cells
Module 3: Working with formulas · Introduction to formulas · Use of mathematical and reference operators · Relative and absolute references · Copying formulas
Module 4: Working with functions · Introduction to functions · Use of pre-defined Excel functions (SUM, AVERAGE, COUNT, MAX, MIN, etc.) · Use of conditional functions (IF, SUMIF, COUNTIF, etc.) · Creating a custom function
Module 5: Working with charts · Creating pie, bar, and line charts · Modifying chart properties (title, legend, labels, etc.) · Inserting charts in a presentation or document Module 6: Working with data and statistical functions · Importing data from another source (e.g. a CSV file) · Sorting data · Filtering data · Using tables and pivot tables to analyze data Module 7: Working with multiple worksheets · Creating a new worksheet · Copying and moving data between worksheets · Using references between worksheets · Creating a formula that uses data from multiple worksheets

Teaching methods
The course will alternate different teaching techniques: lectures, seminars, exercises and tutoring of team work. Lessons may also include pre-recorded materials.

For attending students: Teaching and reading materials provided in class (available on the Ariel platform) through lectures, slides and case studies.
Assessment methods and Criteria
Projects: Students can be invited to complete an individual or group project that requires the use of Excel to analyze data and present results. The project can be presented in the form of a written report and oral presentation.
