Learning objectives
The aim of the course is to provide students with the knowledge and the understanding of the European Union legal order, through the analysis of: the institutional system, the functions of the institution, the exercise of its competence, the relationship with the Member State's legal order and its external action.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course, the student will know the institutional system of the European Union and how the European Union carry out the tasks referred by its Member States. The student will also be able to understand the relationship with the legal order of the Member States, as well as its external action.

The institutional framework of the European Union and its legal order, also in its relationship with Member States and the International Community.

Topics:
- History of European integration.
- The "constitutional" principle of the European Union's legal order: conferral, subsidiarity and proportionality.
- EU citizenship.
- The institutional framework.
- EU legal sources and its decision making process.
- The European Union's external action.
- Judicial control within the European Union
- Primacy of EU law
- Italy's participation to the European integration.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The oral exam consists of an interview in order to ascertain whether the student has learnt the fundamental concepts of European Union law and if he/she is able to present them with appropriate legal vocabulary and an adequate critical eye.
