Enviromental Health and Safety in the Workplace

Learning objectives
- Promote the knowledge of principles and rules relating to industrial and environmental hygiene, the prevention and control of occupational diseases and environmental diseases in Italy and in Europe;
- Promote the knowledge of individual and collective means of protection for the protection of integrity and physical safety and for the protection and health and accident prevention;
- Identification and evaluation of the characteristics of health interest of the various environmental sectors (air, water, soil, food, work environments).

Expected learning outcomes
Knowledge and understanding of the risk assessment process in the workplace. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding to the assessment of chemical risks. Ability to find information on the topic of chemical risk in bibliographic databases. Capability of evaluate the content of the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS).
Knowledge of the model "Sbagliando si Impara" for the assessment of workplace accidents. Ability to outline accidents in order to identify the determining and modulating factors.
Development of the ability to understand the relationship man-environment-health.

Prerequisites for admission
Preliminary knowledge acquired during the courses of previous years is required, with particular reference to the course on Toxicology and Pharmacology and to the course on Ecosystems and environmental quality.
Assessment methods and Criteria
The exam consists of an individual work with the retrieval and interpretation of a scientific article, which is used as a basis for carrying out a simulation of chemical risk assessment and written tests with multiple choice, open questions and exercises on the schematization of the accidents at work.
