Complementary Course: Migration Law - Current Challenges for Lawyers

Learning objectives
At the end of the course the student, who has attended and participated in the proposed meetings, will have acquired a knowledge of the different professional figures operating in the immigration sector and of the challenges that the use of the legal instruments learned entails and will be able to make more conscious choices with respect to his or her training and professional path.
Expected learning outcomes
The course aims to enable students to achieve - in-depth knowledge of the topics covered by the course, on the assumption that they have acquired the basic elements during their previous university career; - the ability to critically address the topics and resolve legal issues through the reworking of the notions learnt; - the strengthening of the technical language relevant to the subject - the ability to link the various topics in order to develop useful proposals for solving concrete cases, through discussions with professionals in the field; - knowledge of the various job opportunities for lawyers in the field of immigration law and of the various legal issues associated with the profession.

The module aims to increase students' practical skills by fostering exchange and discussion with professionals in the field and promoting better knowledge of the various professional figures involved in the management of the migration phenomenon (including lawyers, judges - specialized immigration section for international protection and court for unaccompanied foreign minors, foreigners' office at the Questura, territorial commission for the recognition of international protection, EUAA (European Union asylum agency) officials, UNHCR official, cultural mediator/interpreter, representatives of local authorities, representative of an NGO working in the field of migration, etc. )

Teaching methods
There will be 10 dialogue meetings with a representative of a legal profession in the field of migration. The professional will explain his or her work, including presenting cases they have dealt with, and students will be able to interact by asking questions and presenting reflections.
