Arabic Ii and Mediation

Learning objectives
This course aims to strengthen the linguistic skills acquired by students during Year I by increasing their grammar, syntactic and morphological knowledge of the Arabic language and introducing dialectal linguistic structures, as an example of linguistic variation.
Expected learning outcomes
Students will be able to:
- Recognise and use the morphosyntactic and lexical structures of MSA at an intermediate level, by analysing non-vocalised texts;
- Master communicative functions at an intermediate level;
- Understand and produce texts of medium complexity;
- Use the elementary phraseology of a dialect.

Grammar
We will continue and expand the study morphology and syntax, covering, amongst others:
- irregular verbs
- numerals
- particles and pronouns
- comparative and superlative
- subordinate clauses
Media Arabic
The students will be introduced to the basic vocabulary and structures of media Arabic.
Texts
We will work on reading, comprehension and analysis of intermediate texts, practising the correct use of the dictionary.
We will continue and expand the study morphology and syntax, covering, amongst others:

Prerequisites for admission
In order to sit the exam, students must have completed successfully the Lingua Araba I exam (both written and oral).
Teaching methods
The course consists of lectures and language practice classes (partly online). Attendance is compulsory for language practice classes. Students will be divided into two groups and have to sign up for one of the groups on the MyAriel platform the week preceding the beginning of teaching. The MyAriel website for the course contains a Course Blog, detailing the contents and activities for each class as well as additional references and practice material.

- In the written exam, students will translate one or more short unknown texts and complete grammar exercises.
STUDENTS ARE ADMITTED TO THE ORAL EXAM AFTER SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETING THE WRITTEN EXAM. the oral exam will consist in:
- reading aloud, translation and morphosyntactic analysis of known texts.
- conversation in Arabic on the topics treated in the language practice classes.
