Learning objectives
The course aims to deepen the knowledge of grammar, the acquisition of more advanced morphosyntactic structures and to improve and expand students' vocabulary (as specified in the programme modules 1, 2 and 3), in everyday and specialized areas, such as tourism business, in accordance with the Degree objectives. The learner is expected to achieve the communicative skills and knowledge required for B1/B1+ level of the Common European Framework.
The ability to communicate in Russian in formal and semiformal contexts and in the touristic sphere will be further developed.

Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the third year the student will have a thorough and advanced knowledge of Russian morphosyntax (numerals, participles, verbal adverbs, verbs of motion, verb aspects, here included special uses of aspect). The learner will get a general idea of the complex sentence and expand the vocabulary to the level B1 of the European framework. Skills: at the end of the third year the student will be able to understand complex texts, written and oral, and interact in conversations with natives on various themes.

Unit I:
1. Toponyms and anthroponyms, Russian and foreign, declension and peculiarities of use.
2. Realia and culturospecific words, peculiarities, translation problems and techniques.
3. Cardinal, ordinal and collective numerals: classification, spelling, declension, particularities; use of numerals with nouns and adjectives in various cases.
4. The expression of time with the main units of time and the expression of the hour.
5. Negative pronouns, adjectives and adverbs, formation and semantics; use of negative pronouns, adjectives and adverbs in personal and impersonal sentences.
6. Indefinite pronouns, adjectives and adverbs with the particles -то, -либо, -нибудь, -кое.
7. The pronouns сам, самый, чей (declined), то, что / тот, кто / те, кто, любой, кто / каждый, кто.
8. Reflexive verbs: classification and particularities of use.
Unit II:
1. Active and passive participles, present and past:
- verbal and adjectival characteristics of participles;
- formation and use of participles;
- syntactic function of participles and their declension;
- participial constructs, closed and open; transformation of participial constructs into relative subordinates and vice versa;
- formation and syntactic function of the short and long form of passive participles.
2. The Verbal Adverb (Gerund) of imperfective and perfective verbs: features, formation and use:
- verbal and adverbial characteristics of gerunds;
- formation and use of gerunds;
- syntactic function and transformation of gerund constructs.
3. Verbs of motion with and without prefix, transitive and intransitive (widening).
4. Gerunds of verbs of motion (deepening).
5. Verb Aspects (widening): derived verbs (lexical difficulties and deepening the area of verbs говорить, писать, читать).

1. The sentence and its elements: main and secondary constituents; homogeneous constituents; nominal predicates, the predicative complement of the subject.
2. Circumstantial complements (place, time, manner, end, cause, concession etc.): the use of cases with prepositions (widening).
3. Syntax: expressions of time and cause and the various types of subordinates.

Teaching methods
The theoretical content of the course is taught in lectures, with practical sessions, while language skills will be developed in smaller language practice groups.

Assessment methods and Criteria
Assessment is exam-based. Written and oral exam at the end of the course on all topics covered. At the end of I term (December), students who have attended lectures and carried out the planned activities, i.e. Modulo teorico (Units I and II) and Esercitazioni di lingua russa, will be able to sit a first written examination (Parziale 1) relating to the contents of the Modulo teorico and Esercitazioni di lingua russa. At the end of the second term (May), students who have attended the lectures and carried out the planned activities, i.e. Modulo teorico (Unit III) and Esercitazioni di lingua russa, and who are in order with the first part (Parziale 1), may take the second written part (Parziale 2) relating to these contents. Should the outcome of the second part (Parziale 2) be negative, the Students will take the full final written exam in the official examination sessions scheduled in the academic calendar. Students will then proceed to the final oral examination either having obtained positive marks in both partial examinations (Parziale 1 e Parziale 2) or having passed the final written examination. At the final oral exam, students will have to demonstrate that they have acquired the theoretical and practical knowledge relating to the topics and themes dealt with during the course; the activities proposed during the course in semi-guided and autonomous mode, i.e. reading, comprehension and translation of the texts to be prepared for the final exam (the list will be provided during the course and published on ARIEL) will also be checked at that time.
