Learning objectives
The main target of the workshop is students in scientific areas. It aims to introduce them to the methods of linguistic and literary analysis that are routinely used to detect fakes or non-authentic communications. These methods are commonly used in the humanities, but are little known in other areas of study. The knowledge of them constitutes provides a tool for the critical evaluation of communications, in any field, and becomes even more useful today for the analysis of messages produced by artificial intelligences.
Expected learning outcomes
Knowledge of the proposed tools and methods, incluing ability to present their fundamental aspects to others.

Course syllabus
The workshop consists of 10 meetings of two hours each, which will be held IN PRESENCE in a classroom of the CITTA' STUDI teaching area. In the first meetings, the lecturer will present some 'typical cases' of textual analysis, applied to various kinds of texts and/or documents: from very authoritative texts and therefore subject to misrepresentation, such as the Bible mentioned in the title, to contemporary texts produced by automatic processes. These 'typical cases' will be examined for authenticity/non-authenticity using the methodologies of linguistic and textual analysis. In the last meetings, students will be presented with further case studies, which will be subjected to collective analysis in class under the guidance of the lecturer. At the end of the 10 lessons, each course participant will individually prepare their own analysis of a text assigned by the teacher, in the form of a short written paper, using the techniques examined during the workshop.
Prerequisites for admission
The workshop is aimed more specifically at students of NON-HUMANITIES AREAS. No special prerequisites are required to participate.
To apply for the workshop, please send an email to the lecturer ([email protected]) between 10 and 26 January 2024; the workshop will start during the week of 19-23 February and will continue until May. 30 places are available; if the number of applications will be higher, preference will be given to students from non-humanities areas, and in order of arrival of applications. The admission list will be communicated by 30 January.

Assessment methods and Criteria
At the end of the workshop, each student will be assigned a text to analyse using the techniques described and taught in the workshop; through these techniques, the student will have to make a reasoned judgement on the authenticity and reliability of the text. The analysis will be reported in the form of a short written paper, which will be evaluated by the teacher with a mark of approved/not approved.
International or Erasmus incoming students are kindly requested to contact the teacher of the course. Also students with disabilities should contact the teacher of the course, in order to discuss alternative evaluation methods, in agreement with the competent Office.
