Workshop: Theories and Techniques of Contemporary Storytelling

Learning objectives
The training objectives of the workshop are as follows: to provide students with an in-depth knowledge of the functions of products and narrative processes in different areas of modern society; ensure an adequate understanding of cognitive processes related to the narrative organization of the experience; propose a methodology for analyzing and interpreting literary and audiovisual narrative texts; offer an introduction to creative techniques aimed at narrative writing.
Expected learning outcomes
By the end of the workshop, students will learn how to develop an analytical approach to be applied to literary and audiovisual narrative products. In particular, they will possess:
(a) general knowledge of: the relationship between text and reader; the effects of narrative products on cognitive and emotional processes; intermediate and hyper-topical relationships;
b) specific skills related to: the creation and analysis of settings and narrative characters; developing plots and themes; the application of the main dramatic mechanisms.

Storytelling engineering and storytelling rules.
Contemporary storytelling has its roots in the past and in the archetypes that characterize the construction and vision of the world that has been transmitted from generation to generation to us.
We will enter into the merits of the construction of the digital identity of people and companies and the daily story of their respective existences.
Analysis of business cases and interviews with testimonials will enrich the theoretical part.
The workshop part will cover the evolution of storytelling in fashion brands and in tourism communication.
Research and experimentation will concern in particular tools such as Instagram, Tik Tok and podcasting platforms.

Prerequisites for admission
Basic knowledge of new media and mass communication are prerequisites for entering the laboratory.

Lessons will be held in person.
The topics of the course will be addressed through lectures, during which the students' participation and participation will be stimulated also through exercises (individual and group).
Attendance at the laboratory is mandatory. Attending students are considered to be those who participate in at least 16 hours out of 20 of the course.

The reference material consists of slides provided by the teacher to the students enrolled in the laboratory.
Assessment methods and Criteria
During the workshop, tests of creativity relating to the topics of the lessons will be requested, which will constitute verification of learning.
