Learning objectives
The course aims to provide students with the basics of prevention, prophylaxis and management of the main infectious and parasitic diseases of domestic animals .
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student must know the general topics of biosecurity regarding the prevention and hygienic-sanitary management of infectious and parasitic diseases of domestic animals.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The exam consists of a written exam aimed at ascertaining the acquisition of correct understanding and ability to manage the course topics. The didactical tools available on the Ariel platform allows the formulation of questions aimed at verifying knowledge of the topics, the ability to critically analyze the contents. The test will be evaluated out of thirty and the final grade will take into account the accuracy and quality of the answers.

General definitions of infectious disease and infectious pathogens (4 hours)
Interaction between pathogens, environment and host (2 hours)
Disinfection techniques and technologies applied in farms (4 hours)
General concepts of antibiotic resistance and issues related to the use of antibiotics in pets (4 hours)
Concepts of epidemiology (4 hours)
General concepts of immunization (2 hours)
Main zoonotic diseases of domesttic animals (2 hours)
Diseases subjected to control and eradication on the Italian territory (4 hours)
Prevention of infectious diseases in cattle (8 hours)
Prevention of infectious diseases of small ruminants (2 hours)
Pig farming prevention and biosecurity (6 hours)
Prevention of equine infectious diseases (4 hours)
Prevention of the main pathologies of pets (4 hours)

Practical activity
Organization and activities of a microbiological diagnostics laboratory (4 hours)
Analysis of cattle farm health data (4 hours)
Case reports on protocols for prevention of the main pathologies at farm level (8 hours)
