Learning objectives
The course aims to provide students with the cultural tools to learn about: 1. the principles of the of hospital hygiene and prevention of healthcare related infections; 2. The most important laws of the health systems, to understand the elements of the national and regional levels of the health services; 3. The organization of the general practitioner care outside hospitals; 4. The risk management and patient safety rules and the continuous quality improvement; 5. The first elements of health economics with particular attention on cost/benefits ratio of diagnostic therapeutic and preventive procedures and the ways to apply them on medical decisions. 6. the concept of global health in order to facilitate the learning of the great phenomena that affect health and access to prevention and treatment at a global level.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student must:
1. know the healthcare related infections and the ways to reduce them;
2. Know the health organization at national and regional level;
3. know the organization of the general practice;
4. Know the first concepts about risk management and patient safety;
5. Know the concepts of health economics and their application to medical decisions.
6. Understand the concept and the essentials of global health.

No prior knowledge is required
Assessment methods and Criteria
The full exam at the end of the course, consisting of the administration of the two partial tests (30 multiple choice questions for each test) that will give rise to the final grade. If students have the grade of the midterm exam it will be done an average of the two grades. The student who does not pass the second partial but has taken the 2nd year partial test with an accepted grade, will have to repeat only the second part of the exam, while those who do not have the grade of the mid-term test, will have to take the full exam.

"Health services organization: Health Service in Transition, Analysis of general principles and values of health care systems and their performance using different data set. The Italian National health service. The principal challenges a health service face will be discussed with respect to hospital and primary care. Risk Management: definitions and case study. The quality of all the elements of the process of care is evaluated. The methods to assess quality are described.
