Midwifery Theoretical Developments in Advanced Practice

Learning objectives
- Acquire the advanced, epistemological, clinical methodological and evidence based ability to,:
- analyze and evaluate the midwifery clinical methodology and the identification of evidence based outcomes responding to the needs of the person being cared for;
- to analyze and reconstruct historically the evolution of the midwifery thought in the different periods and in the different cultures
- to provide a contribution to the debate on the nature of the discipline of midwifery, encouraging the advancement;
- to critically analyze the development of knowledge in the discipline of midwifery and its application to contemporary problems of midwifery, care and social care to debate the philosophical foundations and theories of the discipline of midwifery and critically discuss the implications for practice, theory and research
- critically examine the role of reflective practice as a tool for expanding and improving midwifery care in practice, .
- use a reflective framework to identify the use of theory in practice, ,
- . discuss the purpose, application, use, and potential for change of theory in midwifery and health care practice ,
- . examine the relationship between theory, research, and practice, .
- critically discuss the professionalization of midwive from a sociological, historical, political, and organizational perspective and the impact this has on the development of advanced roles .

Expected learning outcomes
- The student will critically analyze from an advanced professional perspective the historical and disciplinary evolution of midwifery in different periods and cultures in order to guide the practice of the advanced functions of the profession.
- Will critically reflect on the methodology of clinical reasoning and its potential in multidisciplinary decision making in relation to complex health problems.
- Will critically evaluate disciplinary theories using appropriate assessment models for intra- and interprofessional definition of potential practice changes.
- He/she will critically evaluate health care choices to safeguard the health of the caregivers by developing evidence-based perspectives for improvement.
