Knowledge of the main theoretical assumptions of specialized translation.
Knowledge and application of the different stages of the translation process.
Mastery of specialized translation methods and tools, with specific reference to the German-Italian language combination.

Second semester
The lectures will be held mainly on Microsoft Teams and can be followed both synchronously based on the timetable of the second semester and asynchronously because they will be recorded and left available to students. Some face-to-face lessons are planned.

All updates and information will be published on the Moodle platform (Traduzione specialistica Lingua Tedesca_CRESTANI (a/a 2020-21)). Students are strongly advised to check the course website regularly so as to be up to date will all information and instructions.
Course syllabus
After analysing some assumptions of translation theory and becoming familiar with the translator's profession and the tools supporting this activity (online resources, parallel and comparable texts, glossaries, corpora, terminology management and computer-aided translation programs, etc.), we will proceed to the practical application of the notions acquired through the translation from German into Italian of authentic documents belonging to various textual genres in the business and technical-promotional field. In addition to the translation of the assigned texts, the elaboration of a glossary of specialist terms is required and, in some cases, revision in pairs.

Assessment methods and Criteria
Written test consisting of two parts. The first part tests the knowledge of the theoretical contents and the domain-specific terminology of the texts translated during the course by means of short open questions; the second part tests the ability to translate a specialist text relating to one of the areas dealt with in the two modules (length: about 2000 characters, including spaces).
