Learning objectives
General objective of the course:
the course aims to provide the student with the theoric and practical notions to identify the dynamics of animal and zoonotic parasite in the host population and the diseases caused by them, to plan control and therapeutical programmes in both companion and zootechnical animals.
Goals to achieve
1) Knowledge and understanding: the students are required to demonstrate exhaustive knowledge of both parasites biology and the relation of parasite-host-environment; the zoonotic risk of some parasites; knowledge of epidemiology, patogenesis, clinical aspects, diagnosis, control, profilaxys and therapy of the most important parasitic diseases of companion animals, large animals and horses
2) Ability to apply knowledge and understanding: the student must be able to apply the theoretical knowledge to recognize the parasitic agents, pathogenesis, clinical symptoms, diagnosis and treatments of parasitic diseases, in order to prevent them and especially plan prophylaxis programmes of zoonotic parasitic diseases.
3) Autonomy of judgment: the student must learn critically and proactively both the information provided by the teacher and those derived from the recommended textbooks
4) Communication skills: the student should be able to explain the concepts acquired with appropriate and updated terminology that should be consistent with the terminology used in other disciplines, during the lectures, the practical lessons and the practical test

The program and reference material will not change. The platform used on which the material is made available is Ariel.
Lessons will be held face to face on the basis of the first semester timetable and simultaneously on the Microsoft Teams platform and can be followed by both students in the classroom and those not present in the classroom.
The face-to-face examination consists of a written test lasting 75 minutes with 60 multiple choice questions; if the emergency situation requires it, the exam will consist of an oral test carried out through Microsoft Teams.
The evaluation criteria will remain unchanged
Lessons will be held face to face on the basis of the first semester timetable and simultaneously on the Microsoft Teams platform and can be followed by both students in the classroom and those not present in the classroom.

Prerequisites for admission
The student must have knowledge of invertebrate zoology (taxonomy, body organization and reproduction), vertebrate anatomy (with particular reference to the gastrointestinal, respiratory, and circulatory systems), general pathology and physiology
Assessment methods and Criteria
The exam for the modules in which the course is divided consists of a practical test and a written test.
The practical test will verify the acquisition of parasitological diagnostic knowledge. The student must be able to correctly perform a diagnostic technique among those carried out during the practical activities (e.g. qualitative copromicroscopic examination (flotation and sedimentation), quantitative copromicroscopic exam, Baerman, Knott test) and he should be able to interpret a parasitological microscopic preparation.
Passing the practical test is an essential condition for being able to take the written test.
The written test consists of 50 multiple choice questions. Each question is assigned a specific score for a total of 50 points.
The questions focus on the content of the lessons and practices. Power Point presentations are available on ARIEL.
The final mark is established in thirtieths
The exam sessions are 8 in number and take place in the months of: January, February, April, June, July, September, October, November / December
Additional sessions for out-of-course students [YES] or undergraduates [NO]. The sessions have been scheduled according to the indications of the Degree Course Council in Veterinary Medicine.
To take the exam, enrollment in the session through the University's SIFA online service is essential (N.B .: enrollments close 4 days before the exam date) and the mandatory preliminary examinations must have been passed.
