Learning objectives
The course aims at providing a deeper understanding of spanish contemporary culture, showing also its historic and cultural roots and highlighting long-lasting phenomena from the previous centuries. The main political, social, economical and cultural changes in Spain will be analyzed through the circumstantial examination of some historical moments and correlated cultural productions. The relationships among culture, discursive strategies, social phenomena, mass communication, production and consumption of cultural products (especially pertaining literary, visual and musical disciplines) will be studied using a humanities approach and an interdisciplinary angle. To reach this goal and facilitate the understanding of topics presented during the course, appropriate semiotic and linguistic tools will be provided.
Expected learning outcomes
The course aims at refining the ability to understand the most significant cultural changes that have characterized contemporary Spain, taking also into account its relationship with the past, whose reading and interpretation allows to understand the present and contributes at entering critically and projectually into the future. Students will acquire the necessary tools to deal with the topic under study from an interdisciplinary perspective. Moreover, they will be able to communicate with command, linguistically and content-wise, the knowledge they acquired during the course.

Lessons will be mainly held on the Microsoft Teams platform and can be followed both in synchrony (as scheduled) and asynchronous because they will be registered and left available to students on the same platform. They may also be held with with video and audio recordings that will also be uploaded and available to students on Teams and Ariel.

The Twentieth Century is dead, long live Twentieth Century.
The history and the protagonists of the last century become the subject of fiction. What happens when history and literature are reinvented with creativity and imagination? What new horizons does historical fiction widen? In how many genres?

Prerequisites for admission
Knowledge of Spanish language is mandatory since most of the sources will be examined in the original language.
Teaching methods
Mixed distance teaching through synchronous and asynchronous lessons, Powerpoint material, material uploaded on the Arial platform, interactive group works.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The oral exam is scheduled at the end of the semester: it aims to evaluate the students' knowledge of the topics discussed in class in the first part of the accademic year, verify the knowledge and understanding of the social, historical, political and economic phenomena analysed during the course. Subjects of the exam are the ability of seize the existential constituent of the cultural products faced in the program as well as the reference to the historical, political and social conditions that have contributed to cause them. Furthermore, communication skills and the ability to provide argumentation will be tested. It will be held in Spanish or Italian.
