Brief description of the course
History and representation of the "Italian miracle"
The course aims to investigate the main dynamics of the years of the so-called "Italian miracle", during which Italy undergoes a very profound transformation, which makes it pass from an agricultural country to an industrial power. In the first module, "Politics, society and culture in the boom years", we will focus on historiography, referring to the fundamental studies of Ginsborg and Crainz, but we will also see how the great journalist Giorgio Bocca had been able to acutely grasp the contradictions of the transformations underway. In the second module, "Telling the 'miracle': hopes, sufferings and disappointments", we will see how the writers (in this case Pasolini, Testori, Bianciardi) were able to grasp the contradictions of the period, both full of promises and new problems, of tensions between old and new cultures, while the signs of imminent consumerism are already flashing.
